Wall-to-Wall Studios Wins PELE Best of Show, Gold & Silver ADDYs, and Co-Founder Bernard Uy Honored with Silver Medal Award
As May 2024 ushered in award season for the advertising business, W|W was proud to have projects and personnel recognized by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the nation's oldest national advertising industry trade association.
Congrats to Bernard Uy, W|W’s Co-Founder and Executive Creative Director, who was honored with AAF Hawaii's Silver Medal Award. Bernard has previously served as a board member and past President of both AIGA Pittsburgh and Honolulu chapters, a past board member of Bishop Museum, and is the current Board Chair of the non-profit Hawaii Arts Alliance. He has taught as an adjunct professor at his alma mater Carnegie Mellon’s School of Design, and as a visiting professor at the St. Gallen School of Design in Switzerland. Bernie was previously honored as a Pittsburgh magazine “40 Under 40," AAF Hawaii’s 2009 “Ad Man of Year,” and a Hawaii Business Magazine “20 For The Next 20”.
The 2024 Pele (ADDY) Awards Show was hosted in Waikiki at Elks Lodge #616, on May 4th. An integral part of Hawaii’s advertising and design community for more than 40 years, this year’s Pele Awards had over 500 submissions. Judges were from all over the U.S. and included Beth Hambly, Creative Director, McCann (Detroit, MI), Kelly McGuckin, Creative Director, FCB (Chicago, IL), Rodrigo Butori, Creative Director & Founder, Plastic Fisherman (Miami, FL/ Los Angeles, CA), Will Chau, Global VP of Creative & Design, Whole Foods Market (Austin, TX), and Dan Marvin, Creative Director, Hart (Toledo, OH).
W|W took home Best of Show, brand campaign, for our work with Capitol Modern, The Hawai’i State Art Museum. The W|W collaboration with Capitol Modern also received accolades for the logo (silver), website (gold), web ux (silver), social campaign (bronze), and web responsive (bronze). The logo design for Capitol Modern also won a National ADDY Award. And, W|W’s work with Ship to Hawaii was also recognized for the social ad campaign (gold).
Held at The Power Center at Duquesne University on May 2nd, the 2024 Pittsburgh ADDY Awards recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising. Judges for 2024 included Billy Barnes, Creative Director (Raleigh, NC), Mike Latshaw, Creative Director, Grey (NYC), Lisa Sirbaugh, Creative Director (Frederick, MD), Lindy Gross, Creative Director (Portland, OR), Ryan Coleman, Group Creative Director/VP, Luquire (Charlotte, NC).
The W|W design work for Java Kai, the legendary coffee roaster in Kauai since the 90’s, was recognized for the logo (gold). Other W|W accolades included Silver Awards for Nova Place (Brilliance Works Here campaign), Blind Adam (The Fields We Know album design), Film Pittsburgh (3RFF and Shorts Festival, cross-platform campaign), Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (6th Street branding), and W|W’s Occasional Tarot Cards (printed set of cards and website).
