THE HEINZ AWARDS
CELEBRATING EXTRAORDINARY ACHIEVEMENTS
Established by Teresa Heinz in 1993 to honor the memory of her late husband, U.S. Senator John Heinz, the Heinz Awards celebrate the extraordinary achievements of individuals in the Arts, the Economy, and the Environment. The program is administered by the Heinz Family Foundation of Pittsburgh, with awardees receiving a monetary award of $250,000 and the coveted Heinz Awards medallion.
W|W was hired to completely redesign the organization's website, delivering an experience on par with the excellence of individuals that the Heinz Awards recognizes. The prior website was originally built in 2008 and had become increasingly difficult for the admin team to update and maintain. The new responsively designed website is built on BlokBlok CMS, a Ruby on Rails + Javascript content management system (CMS) that provides the client team with the ability to efficiently manage the site's content.
SHARED IDEALS REALIZED
In order to elevate the compelling stories behind each of the Heinz Awards recipients, W|W created a custom digital design system that effectively brings these powerful narratives to life, echoing the work of the Heinz Family Foundation and the Heinz Awards program. The site was engineered with a robust directory that houses past recipients and is easily searchable by award cycle/year and category.
